ABOUT BOOK

ABOUT AUTHOR

An important scientific subject that is essential to biotechnology, agriculture, and conservation is plant genetics. The goal of this book, "Plant Genetics: Foundations and Advances," is to offer a thorough examination of the genetic processes that determine the features and attributes of plants. Plant genetics has come a long way in the last century, starting with the groundbreaking work of Gregor Mendel, whose studies with pea plants established the foundation for classical genetics, and continuing with the development of cutting-edge molecular technologies like CRISPR-Cas9.

The book is intended for a wide range of readers, including plant science professionals, researchers, and students. Key ideas in plant genetics, such as the composition and function of DNA, gene expression, and regulation, are introduced from the outset. Advanced subjects including genetic engineering, functional genomics, and the most recent developments in gene editing technology are covered in later chapters.

Our mission is to inspire creative solutions to address some of the most important issues facing global agriculture, including food security, climate change, and biodiversity preservation, in addition to disseminating information. This book demonstrates how plant genetics may improve sustainability and change agricultural practices by fusing old-fashioned breeding methods with cutting-edge genetic technologies.

It is our goal that this book will prove to be a useful tool and encourage more study and inquiry into the exciting topic of plant genetics.

Dr. Arvind Kumar

Dr. Arvind Kumar born in 1971,completed master’s degree in Genetics and Plant Breeding from Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture & technology, Kanpur (U.P.) and obtained PhD in Agricultural Botany from V.B.S. Purvanchal university, Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh in 2004 ( as in service candidate) having specialization in Plant Breeding & Genetics (Plant tissue culture and somaclonal variations in sugarcane). He joined his service in 1997 at UPCSRG.S.Sugarcane Breeding & Research Institute, Seorahi, Kushinagar as Senior Scientific Asstt.(Genetics).He has been associated with evaluation of sugarcane germplasm for different biotic and abiotic stresses, faster seed cane multiplication through micro-propagation. Presently he is looking after sugarcane research and varietal development activities both AICRP(S) and U.P. state for high cane and sugar yield with pest and disease resistant varieties of sugarcane specifically for U.P. and Northern India in general .He has developed many advance clones in both the early and midlate maturity groups and also associated in release of sugarcane varieties ; CoS 08279,CoS 08276 , CoS 12232,CoS 13231,CoS 09232,CoS 13235,CoS 10239, CoS 14233, CoS 15233,CoS 16233,CoS 17231,UP 14233 and CoS 18231 for commercial cultivation in whole Uttar Pradesh. Dr. Kumar has published more than 50 research and review papers in national and international journals of repute,30 papers presented oral/posters in different regional / national / international seminars/symposia /conferences. He has coedited two books namely: sugarcane production manual and sugarcane varietal development & their identification and also published more than 6 book chapters on emerging trends/aspects of crop breeding with conventional and biotechnological approaches. He is also life member of different societies and editorial board of journals.
